- Takes responsibility for her own behaviour.
- Is self-motivated rather than driven by others.
- Acts according to internal values and goals.
Examples
Example 1: Student and Failure
- A high self-determined student accepts responsibility for failing and plans to study better.
- A low self-determined student blames teachers, parents, or friends.
Example 2: Motivation Source
- A person starting a hobby because they enjoy it shows self-determination.
- Starting a hobby for prestige or approval does not.
Example 3: Relationships
- Taking responsibility for past relationship issues shows self-determination.
- Blaming all partners does not.
